This image of the Kupaianaha lava pond was taken in December 1986. Cracks zigzag across the thin crust on the pond revealing the molten rock below. The entrance to the lava tube that carried lava toward the sea is at the end of the long neck on the pond. The circular part of the pond is about 100 meters in diameter. |
