This Voyager 1 view of the Great Red Spot and its turbulent surroundings is shown in highly exaggerated color, which tends to emphasize red and blue at the expense of green. At the bottom can be seen one of three oval cloud systems which formed nearly forty years ago. Note the wealth of detail within both the Great Red Spot and the oval and in the turbulent clouds that flow around them. The distance from top (north) to bottom of this picture is 24,000 km (15,000 miles). The smallest features visible are approximately 30 km (20 miles) across. |
