Maps of Io

This map of Io was constructed using black and white image data from the Voyager and Galileo spacecraft and coloring the resulting map with the color channels from lower resolution color images taken by Galileo. Images used for the map are selected for maximum detail and not for current appearance. Io is the most active body in the solar system and surface features are changing in short times. The scale is 20 pixels/degree at the equator for the Mercator maps. The following image shows the locations of the Io map quadrangles.
